Phonics at Harestock

At Harestock we are passionate about ensuring that all of our children have access to the very best phonics provision so that they can be secure and confident readers.

We use The Little Wandle Systematic Synthetic Phonics Programme to plan, resource and teach early reading and writing skills. Little Wandle provides an evidence-based approach which gives consistency to the teaching of reading across the whole school.

All staff across the infants and juniors have regular training to ensure a high level of expertise so that every child is supported to learn to read.

Children are assessed at regular intervals to provide us with their individual next steps, and any gaps that need filling are addressed promptly. The books that children read in school and at home are matched to their phonic knowledge so that all children are able to apply their reading skills with confidence.

We are keen to offer parents and carers guidance with how to support your children at home through regular information meetings focused on the teaching of phonics and reading.
